A new color palette can easily transform a room and a fresh coat of paint is one of the most cost-efficient ways to makeover a space! Color can add both depth and texture to a room and can bring character and warmth into an area. The best part about paint? If you don’t like it, you can always redo it! Here are 4 painting tips for your next remodeling project!
1. By far one of the most popular paint trends that we have seen in 2012 is the recognition of gray as a neutral. Gray is the new beige! Gray can be accented and highlighted with nearly any color, making it the perfect backdrop to any design or aesthetic. This calming hue is ideal for rooms designed to exude serene comfort.
2. Choose carefully. While new paint is a comparably cost effective project supply, no one wants to re-paint if they don’t have to. With that in mind, we always recommend investing in a sample of the paint that you are interested in using. Paint a swatch on your wall and observe the color in different lighting and at different times of day to get a good feel for what it will really look like in your room.
3. Use paint to accent. The perfect compliment to a newly neutral gray room? Bright colorful accents. Even if you don’t want to paint your walls, you can still benefit from bright color statements. Use an accent color to spruce up your wood furniture, book cases or even your floor.
4. For more color inspiration, check out Benjamin Moore’s newly released 2013 Home Color Trends palette. One of the most notable inclusions is the 2013 color of the year, lemon sorbet. According to Benjamin Moore this shade promises to be, “Uplifting without being overpowering,” and like gray, will serve as a great backdrop for brighter color highlights.
