Excel Builders recently completed a custom kitchen and main floor remodel on a 1960’s split level home located in Edina, MN. Our focus for this remodel was to open the kitchen up in to family room to make room for their future growing family.
To open the kitchen up we removed two interior walls, one which was load bearing. To remove this wall, we completed the needed engineering to make ensure we could remove the wall. After the engineering, was completed it was required that we would need to install 4- 14” x 32’ lvl’s, along with additional concrete work.
We also removed a second set of stairs leading to the basement off the back side of the home. Removing this set of stairs allowed more room for the kitchen and better flow.
Our sister company Artisan Cabinet Co. built, finished, and installed custom cabinets. Being a design and build firm, our in-house designer designed the cabinets working with our clients to give them the kitchen to fit their needs.
Along with removing the walls, new hardwood flooring was installed on the main level, and the stairs were redone with hardwood treads and risers. To finish the stairs off we made a custom handrail, and cable system to allow an open view from the front door into the kitchen and living room. Then we completed the main level with new interior and entry doors and overall new lighting.
Along with all of this we installed new Marvin Integrity windows in the kitchen. New trim, case, and base on the floor. Finished this off with custom painting of the ceiling, walls, and trim.
In all the project took about 12 weeks to finish, it was worth the wait. Our clients are happy with the results, and will be able to enjoy their new kitchen for years to come.
